MAP A PLAN TO COMPLETE YOUR CURRICULUM REQUIREMENTS
While the major provides depth, the Discovery Curriculum (general education) requirements offer breadth of study. They allow you to cultivate your appreciation of arts and literature; deepen your knowledge of history, science, and current events; and expose yourself to unfamiliar cultures and perspectives. In doing so, you will stretch yourself in ways that will enrich you for the rest of your life.
As a sophomore, you’ll create a plan for completing your Discovery Curriculum requirements in time for graduation. This is JUST a Plan, not a contract. You may change your Plan at any time as you find new, more interesting ways to satisfy your requirements.
How to Create a Plan
Using the “Online Curricular Planner” To help guide you through this process, we developed fancy software called the “Online Curricular Planner,” available through WebSTAC under the Arts & Sciences link. Once you learn the basics, the Online Planner is easy to use. You can learn more about how to use this software from several resources:
• Online Planner Workshops, which will be held on Oct. 26, 27, 28, and 29, and November 2, 3, 4, and 5, all from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Eads 003.
• ArtSci web site at http://college.artsci.wustl.edu/about-planner
• The Dean of the Day in Umrath 115.
Once you create a Plan that satisfies you, you then “nominate” it for your Four Year Advisor’s approval and, upon approval, it becomes your “current” Plan.
The last day to nominate a plan is March 31, 2010.

“It’s important to look beyond your classes and schoolwork to find out what your true passions are, especially as a freshman, you should take advantage of opportunities to join extracurricular groups. You can use these experiences to choose a major, to choose classes, and to guide your career choices.”
