Welcome to the January Program! The January Program at Washington University is a select group of about 40 freshmen who begin as full-time students in January after high school graduation.
January Program students are "adventurers" in spirit. While most of their classmates begin their full-time studies in the fall, January Program students have a number of unique opportunities open to them. Last fall alone, they participated in internships, attended classes at local colleges and universities, performed community service, traveled, studied abroad, and attended the National Outdoor Leadership School.
At the same time, Washington University offers two valuable opportunities during the summer and fall for January Program students to earn academic credit, experience Washington University’s academic life, and get acquainted with the campus, fellow freshmen, and key faculty and staff. These opportunities are the Freshman Summer Academic Program and the January Fall Program.
Over the years, many students in the January Program have found their summer and fall projects and programs rewarding, have made the transition to campus successfully, and have come to see the January Program as an essential part of their Washington University education.
Please note that there is no separate application form or process for the January Program. All students applying as freshmen share the same application and due dates, and from this group of applicants, a select number receive an offer of admission to the University through the January Program.
