Dean McLeod joined Washington University in 1974 as an assistant professor of German, was named assistant dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences from 1974 to 1977, and then became assistant to then-Chancellor William H. Danforth between 1977 and 1987. From 1987 to 1992, he was director of the African and Afro-American Studies Program. In 1992 he was named Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
In his position as both Dean of the College as well as Vice Chancellor for Students, Dean McLeod is concerned with all facets of student life, from admission through graduation. He oversees all aspects of the College Office, from advising to curriculum to commencement.

Dean Biggs is a four-year adviser and the Director of Undergraduate Research. He also directs and teaches courses in the Praxis Program, a complement to the student's major designed to offer opportunities to combine the foundation of a liberal arts education with marketable skills. He is the Faculty Adviser for the ThurtenE Carnival, the oldest student-run carnival in the country. Dean Biggs also oversees online course evaluations and language placement exams.

Dean Kennedy is the Director of both the Advising Program as well as the Freshman Summer Academic Program and works very closely with incoming Arts and Sciences freshmen. She also works closely with Trevor Bilhorn and the Curriculum Committee. Her duties with the freshman class also include working with the Orientation Office, organizing Parents Weekend, and implementing the Arts and Sciences Curriculum.

Dean Killen works mainly with seniors in preparing for graduation. In this capacity, Dean Killen also works closely with Angela Taylor in the certification of students for graduation. In addition to helping students prepare for graduation, Dean Killen is also instrumental in assisting students with post-graduation plans, whether that is work or further education. Dean Killen also serves as the College's Academic Integrity Officer.

In addition to serving as a four-year adviser, Dean Stahl serves as the Director of the Life Sciences Professions Program, working closely with students wishing to attend medical school or other life-sciences-oriented professional programs. She also oversees the Honorary Scholars Program, which includes the Danforth, Compton, Moog, Mylonas, and Lien Scholars Programs. Dean Stahl works with the Biggs Residency in the Classics and coordinates with Undergraduate Admissions in acquainting prospective students and their families with the College of Arts and Sciences.

Dean Ake is based in the Interdisciplinary Project in the Humanities. The Interdisciplinary Project in the Humanities (IPH) is a rigorous, interdisciplinary program for students seeking honors. The major combines an introductory core - a concentrated study of texts central to the European and American philosophical, religious, and literary traditions - with an area of concentration - an advanced sequence of courses and research tailored to the special interests of each student in the program. In this position, Dean Ake advises a large number of students while also teaching for the Department of Women and Gender Studies and the Department of English.
