The Praxis Program

*Less excited about pre-med than you used to be?

*Concerned that your Social Sciences or Humanities major may make you less competitive in the workforce? (You're wrong!)

* Tired of your parents asking you, "Well, what are you going to do with THAT major?!"

strength through experience

The Praxis Program provides an exciting opportunity to combine the analytical reading, writing and thinking skills of a liberal arts education with the marketable skills required in the 21st century to take you into a career path designed specifically by and for you.

Eligibility Requirements: The program is designed for students in or entering their sophomore year. Students must fill out an on-line application for the program and be accepted to enroll in Praxis courses. Students must have maintained at least a 3.0 to be considered eligible; Arts & Sciences students will be given priority.

Faculty: The Arts & Sciences faculty have helped to develop the program and Praxis faculty are committed to a fuller mentoring relationship with students. Course enrollments are limited to ensure you get the individualized attention you deserve.  In addition, leaders in business, nonprofit organizations, government and the like (who discovered the foundation for their success in liberal arts studies) are lecturers in the signature Praxis courses.

Focused "Workforce" Curriculum: Not only does the Praxis program provide you with the foundation of a liberal arts education, the curriculum is designed specifically to provide you with many additional tools essential for your future in the world of work. Besides the specialized content of your particular field, you will be acquiring the expertise essential for your first job as well as for careers that may not yet exist.

  • Analysis of multiple perspectives to address increasing globalization
  • Critical Thinking
  • Familiarity with Quantitative Analysis and Methods
  • Outstanding Writing and Speaking Skills
  • Foreign Language Literacy or Culture
  • Team and Group work expertise and psychology
  • Essential Skills in traditional and emerging Technology

Praxis Internship: The Praxis experience will culminate in an internship. The internship will allow students to synthesize the tools and theories they have learned and utilize them in the workplace. Internships can be located in both national and international sites. Students will work closely with Praxis faculty to ensure that internships are relevant and that the written requirements are fulfilled in a timely manner.

Community: The success of our students is central to our Program. Your academic advisers as well as each Praxis faculty member will assist you in charting your education to your own interests and goals. In particular, your own Faculty Mentor will closely monitor your progress. The faculty and staff, you and your fellow Praxis students will all form a supportive community that will stimulate and encourage the highest standards of excellence in your studies and in your chosen careers.
