Sophomore Survival Guide 2009-2010

Welcome to the sophomore year! Like the freshman year, this year is a time to explore new possibilities, but also it is a time to deepen your commitments to friends, student groups, and coursework.

You will pass two particularly important milestones during the sophomore year: joining a major and mapping out your plan for completing your Discovery Curriculum requirements.

You will also begin to explore more deeply the possibilities of getting involved in your major, studying abroad, considering postgraduate school and career options, inquiring into undergraduate research, and assuming leadership positions.

Whether in difficult or easy times, it’s also important to make the most of resources like money, health, time, and study skills, which help you move forward with strength and purpose.

Today your path ahead may not be clearly defined, but that’s only because you have not yet created it. As you travel on your personal journey to success, you have guides along the way—your faculty, advisors, and support staff across campus. We have been on this journey, too, and we can’t wait to see where yours will take you. --
