Merle Kling Undergraduate Honors Fellowship

Every year, five of the University’s most promising and talented undergraduate scholars are selected to join the Merle Kling Undergraduate Honors Fellowship. The MKUHF program provides these students with the opportunity to conduct ongoing, independent research on a topic of their choosing. Students develop research proposals, write papers, and present their findings to the other Fellows. At the end of the two year program, Fellows publish full-length articles in Slideshow, the program’s academic journal.

The MKUHF program aims to introduce students to the life of the mind, to show students what it is like to do research, and to excite gifted undergraduates about the possibilities of a career in academia. Yet, the benefits of the Fellowship go beyond an individual’s interests and aspirations. The MKUHF program creates a community of scholars that come together and engage in one another’s research. Weekly seminars allow students to discuss their research and engage in conversations that cross disciplinary boundaries. The program promotes fellowship in its truest form: a community of motivated intellectuals, brought together to facilitate discovery and collaboration.

New cohorts are selected from the sophomore class every spring semester.
